August 17-19
If you are looking for some quality family time in an environment that is safe and accepting of people with special needs, consider attending this weekend sponsored by the Down Syndrome Support Network of Northern New York. Families who are dealing with disabilities are encouraged to spend the weekend doing any activities they want; fishing, swimming, playing beach volleyball, canoeing, hiking, or just enjoying the quietness of the Adirondacks. There are some organized activities, but people are encouraged to participate only in the ones that interest them. Meals are provided and are eaten as a group—providing an excellent chance to meet and get to know other families who have special needs family members. Possible financing is available through the DPAO of Jefferson County (contact Tina Cummings at 782-5285 ext. 226).
